Event Highlights 2017-18
These are just a few highlights of some of the events/outings during our Guild year that runs from April 2017 to March 2018.
June 2017
Timespan are a husband and wife team who give historical
presentations; last year they visited
and spoke about Victorian Christmases and enlightened us as to how many of the
traditions arose. They also have a
beautiful garden that can be visited and so we combined a visit to that with a trip to Arundel. We had free time exploring the city, and then enjoyed afternoon tea in the garden. It is a delight with plants, trees, woodland
sculptures, and a large pond teeming with goldfish. There is a huge variety of flowers, all of
which combine to create a wonderfully scented and perfect venue for a rest before returning home.
August
Six models and clothes provided by M&Co – a perfect partnership for a fashion show. Our volunteer models had chosen a variety of clothes to show off, which were all available to be purchased afterwards. They walked, strutted and twirled and proved that it’s never too late to learn new skills.
What better time to think about tennis than the summer? The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, also known as the All England Club is best known as the venue for the Wimbledon Championships. We had a tour followed by free time to look around the museum and perhaps sample the delights of the café. Anyone for Pimm’s?
October
There was fierce competition at our monthly meeting when we held a Beetle Drive. There was deep concentration as we all tried to be the first pair to win and all that could be heard was the rattle of dice. After our tea break the Drama Group gave individual readings which were well received.
November
Our meeting was a celebration of our guild’s birthday: 67 years old and still going strong. We had cake, wine or soft drinks, and were entertained by harpist Margaret Watson.
December
Christmas lunch in a local restaurant.
Good food and good company make a perfect combination for a very
enjoyable meal, plus no rows about whose turn it is to do the washing up.
March 2018
The end of our year and so to the AGM. The highlight of this has always been a production by the drama group after all the official business. This year was no exception with three humouress pieces that were enjoyed by all and demonstrated the acting world's loss but TG's gain.
